Techno 2024 Awards Ceremony Celebrates Excellence in Engineering

The Techno 2024 Awards Ceremony, the crowning event of Sri Lanka’s premier engineering and technology exhibition, was held on November 22, 2024, at the Eagle Hall, Waters Edge. Organized by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), the evening recognized the outstanding contributions of individuals, institutions, and businesses to advancing engineering innovation and excellence in the country.

The event commenced at 6:00 p.m., bringing together a distinguished gathering of professionals from the engineering community, corporate leaders, academics, and other dignitaries. The ceremony was inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by key IESL representatives and sponsors, symbolizing the collaborative spirit that drives Techno Sri Lanka, now recognized as a flagship event for engineering and technology in the region.

Celebrating Achievements and Innovation

The awards highlighted exemplary achievements across multiple categories, acknowledging contributions to engineering, technology, and innovation. Honors were presented to commercial organizations for their innovative products, displays, and services, and to sectional committees, provincial chapters, and university teams for their contributions to advancing the profession.

Among the notable awards:


• Best Stall Aligned with the Techno Theme (“Engineering, The Path to Prosperity”): Gold was awarded to Infinity Green International.
• Most Innovative Local Engineering Products: The top honor went to the House of Z Lon, reflecting their pioneering work in local engineering solutions.
• University Competitions: The University of Moratuwa secured Gold for outstanding engineering projects and also won the Most Popular Idea award.

The event also celebrated the creative efforts of university students in competitions such as the CAD Eager, Stream-Xtreme, and Sky Ward challenges, demonstrating the vibrant future of engineering in Sri Lanka.

A Platform for Collaboration

Techno Sri Lanka, which began in 1985, has grown to be the largest annual engineering and technology exhibition in the country. This year’s theme, “Engineering, The Path to Prosperity,” encapsulates the role of innovation in national development. The event serves as a hub for industry professionals, students, and business leaders to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and build connections.

IESL has been instrumental in fostering this platform, providing opportunities for Sri Lankan engineers to present their work and network with global counterparts. This year’s Techno exhibition continued its legacy of inspiring breakthroughs and advancing engineering excellence.

A Night of Fellowship

In addition to the awards, attendees enjoyed cultural performances, including traditional dances by the Sidath Dancing Academy and live music by the Music Engineers Band, a talented group of engineers from IESL. The evening concluded with a dinner and fellowship, celebrating the collective achievements of the engineering community in Sri Lanka.
